Sunday’s Heartbreaking Loss

My heart is breaking for the families who lost loved ones on Sunday in the helicopter crash.

Sadly, nine people passed away in this tragic accident.  Multiple families lost their loved ones so today, I would like to encourage us to pray for each family that is grieving.

Most well-known was Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna.  Living in CA, my father’s favorite basketball team was the Lakers.  Kobe was not only a basketball legend; he was a husband and father.  Today, I ask you to join me in praying for Kobe’s wife, Vanessa, and his 3 daughters who are grieving not only their husband and dad but also their daughter and sister.

Another devastating loss is the Altobelli’s family.  Sadly, both the father and mother were on this helicopter along with their 13-year-old daughter.  My heart is breaking for their son, JJ and daughter, Alexis who lost both their parents and sister in this tragic accident.  Today, please pray for these two children who are grieving the loss of their family.

A mother and daughter, Sarah and Payton Chester, were also on board the helicopter.  Sadly, they leave behind a husband and two boys.  Today, I ask you to pray for the Chester family as they are grieving the loss of their mom and sister.

Traveling with them were Ara Zobayan, a veteran pilot and Christina Mauser, a basketball coach.  Christina was a wife and mother of 3 children.  Again, my heart is breaking for another family that is grieving their mom and wife.  Today, let’s life us Christina’s family in prayer as well as friends and family of Ara the pilot.

God, my heart is heavy today.  As I type each of these names, I am deeply saddened as I know there are children missing their mom and dad and parents missing their teenage daughters. God, I know you say in Psalms 34:18 that “You are close to the broken hearted” so I pray for these children, spouses, and friends that they feel You closer than ever before.   I pray they run to You for comfort and peace in the middle of their pain.  God, surround them with loved ones who can support them and give them the gift of Presence when they feel alone.  Continue to wrap Your loving arms around them and remind them You care. We lift all of these families up to you today.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
