Rest & Reflect
June 30, 2021 / /
The view was breathtaking.
As my boys and I hiked to the top of Inspiration Point last week, the blue water of Jenny Lake reflected the most stunning scenery. I just sat there mesmerized by God’s beautiful creation.
Have you ever been captivated by a gorgeous sunset or awestruck by God’s unique design?
This past week, I enjoyed a family vacation with my boys in Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons National Park! The panoramic views in both parks were spectacular and I once again was in awe of God and His handiwork.
Our first day in the Grand Tetons, I was sitting on a park bench outside of our hotel looking at Jackson Lake. The boys and I were tired from three full days in Yellowstone, so we chose a slower, restful afternoon. So, I grabbed my book and decided to read by the exquisite view of the lake.
There is something powerful about taking time to rest and reflect!
Resting does not come naturally to most of us. Instead, we feel a pull to be busy and productive. But striving can be exhausting and leads to burnout.
As a task-oriented, type A person, I have had to learn to intentionally designate times of rest and reflection during my busy days. At first, it was uncomfortable, but now, those hours of reading and journaling are some of my favorite parts of my week.
This week on the Depth Podcast, I talk with Rachel Fahrenbach about her book, *Rest & Reflect, a 12-week guided Sabbath journal. During a transition year that forced her to wrestle with identity, purpose, and belonging, Rachel realized the importance of processing her week through an intentional day of rest and reflection.
I loved our conversation as we dove deeper into what this deliberate time looked like for her and her family. I cannot wait for you to hear the 5 R’s and how her family practically observes a 24-hour Sabbath each week.
I also love the intentional reflection time that Rachel models for us. Processing our weeks, our emotions, our ups and downs is so important, and I am excited for you to hear the questions she uses in her weekly lookback. They have been so helpful to me and I know they will be a great resource for you.
I encourage you to listen to this episode and the wisdom Rachel shares. I hope it inspires you to want to Rest & Reflect each week too!
Love, Jodi

218. Stronger than Stress– Barb Roose
Do you feel stressed? Would you say you are overwhelmed by all you have on your plate? Do you wish you had more peace? I…
I need time to rest and reflect on all the blessings and then the conflicts I’ve experienced in the last week. I try to journal, but I need to have a specific time to keep pace with what is going on inside my heart. I think the book, “Rest and Reflect” would be a wonderful way to keep me from holding in my feelings and to release them on the page where I can find healing from God’s Word and a rest from trying so hard to be a “good” wife.
Kathy,
Yes, I think we all need time to rest and reflect each week! I think journaling is an excellent way too and I hope Rachel’s book will be helpful resource for you! Thanks again, Jodi
