5 Truths I Know in the Middle of the Unknown

I woke up in the middle of the night.

All the worries of the week dancing in my head interrupting a good night’s sleep: Worried about school for my kids. Anxious what my teaching job will look like. Concerned about the physical and mental health of my family.  Maybe you have similar concerns as you look at this unknown future.

Uncertainty describes 2020 perfectly. 

Most days, I can rise above these unknown circumstances. But today, I feel paralyzed by them. How do we move forward when we don’t even know what lies ahead?

At 4:00am this morning, my mind needs the truth to speak louder than the uncertain noise. So today, I am writing 5 Truths I know to be True in the middle of the unknown.

I know God is in control even when life feels out of control.

I know God is good even when circumstances don’t seem good.

I know God has a plan even when I cannot see the plan.

I know God is working in the waiting even when my eyes cannot see any changes.

I know God is faithful to walk alongside me no matter how difficult my circumstances become.

In the Bible, there are some verses that start with the words, “we know/ I know”.  I love God’s purposeful choice of words because sometimes we need a reminder of what “we know” to be true because hard circumstances will try to tell us the opposite.  

Here are two of my favorite “we know” verses:

Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Unknown may be our new norm, but knowing the truth about God will always be our saving grace.

As I cling to these powerful truths in the early hours of the morning, my heart feels lighter. A huge weight has been lifted and I can see that God’s Got This!

I don’t have to know all the details; I just have to know the God who does!
